In the last year or so there has been an emerging trend - (largely unnoticed by the wedding blogs and magazines who seem to be unwaveringly focused on geometrics and geodes!) using silk ribbon to adorn a single tier or to add a feminine touch to details on wedding cakes . Wildflower Cakes was the trailblazer (at least with Pompom Blossom silk ribbon!) and since then an increasing number of cake makers/designers have followed suit, adding their own individual creative touch, from ornate bows and loops, to simple knots and twists, wrapped around single elements, one tier or multiple tiers !
More often than not I see my silk ribbon being used to adorn either beautiful bouquets or wedding stationery so its always a lovely surprise and an honour to see it being used to adorn the most fabulous wedding cakes.
I do offer a colour-matching service for cake designers so if you have a particular shade in mind to complement sugar flowers, sugar work, buttercream or icing please do get in touch. Several of the cakes pictured below are also displayed on Pompom Blossom silk fabric to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated cake display.
If your cake is complete and ribbon is tied around the cake my tip is to glide a pair of hair straighteners down the lengths of ribbon whilst the cake is in situ - as this will rid the ribbon of any unsightly creases!
